Afrocats is expanding its Board of Trustees and seeking new members to support its growth, strengthen governance, and help shape its future direction. We are looking for individuals to join our Board of Trustees. Board of Trustees Afrocats is looking to expand its Board of Trustees. With an established Board already in place, we are entering an exciting new phase of growth and seeking additional Trustees to help shape our future direction. Our work supports communities through creative expression, participation, and inclusive cultural experiences. As we grow our reach and impact, we are strengthening our Board to ensure we remain ambitious, sustainable, and community-led. This is a meaningful opportunity to play a key role in the governance and strategic development of a growing organisation that centres equity, lived experience, and creativity. Who we are looking for? Fundraising and Income Generation We are looking for someone with experience in fundraising, bid writing, or income generation. You will support the development of long term funding strategies, major grant applications, and sustainable income growth. Marketing and Corporate Engagement We are looking for someone with experience in marketing or business engagement. You will help raise our profile, strengthen our brand, and develop meaningful partnerships with businesses and corporate supporters. Philanthropy and Relationship Building We are looking for someone with experience in philanthropy, fundraising networks, or relationship management. You will help us connect with donors, foundations, and individuals who can support our long term impact. Volunteer Management We are looking for someone with experience in volunteer coordination or management. You will help us develop inclusive, safe, and supportive volunteer systems as the organisation grows. Finance and Accounting We are looking for a qualified finance professional, ideally a chartered accountant. You will support financial oversight, planning, reporting, and long term financial sustainability. What you will do as a Trustee As a Trustee, you will help guide the strategic direction of Afrocats and ensure we remain financially sustainable, well governed, and aligned with our mission. You will contribute to decision making at Board level, support risk and compliance oversight, and help ensure our work continues to centre creativity, wellbeing, and community impact. You will also act as an ambassador for Afrocats, helping to champion our work and values across your networks and beyond. Youth of the World is our programme of work for young people so they can broaden their horizons. We work with children and young people aged 8 to 18 from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, in particular refugees and asylum seekrs. Our Youth of the World programme gives young people the chance to explore, grow, build new skills - and have fun along the way We work with children and young people aged 5 to 18, including those living in temporary accommodation, seeking sanctuary in the UK, or facing barriers due to their economic circumstances. We create opportunities for them to take part in activities and enriching experiences beyond school by building confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. 1322 children and young people 85% are Black, Asian or from the global majority 40% were living in temporary accomodation 10% are home schooled or not regularly attending school Over the past year we've worked with Services for young people We offer activities which include young people from marginalised backgrounds, help them to develop social and practical skills, and improve their wellbeing. Creative Expression Whether it's mark-making or hip-shaking, our Saturday sessions are full of creative energy and fun. We Lead Projects to level up leadership skills, develop confidence and empower young people to be leaders in their communities. Our Natives of the World adult programme supports women to lead happy, healthy and creative lives, where they feel valued for the contributions they make. We work with women who have experienced inequality and trauma, supporting them to build confidence, develop skills and reconnect with their strengths. Many are navigating the asylum system. The women we work with often face isolation and challenges to their wellbeing, including the impact of long-term physical and mental health conditions. Through our programmes, we create space for connection, creativity and rebuilding confidence. 488 women aged 18+ 100% are Black, Asian or from the global majority 15% have experienced domestic violence 92% are currently in the asylum system Over the past year we've worked with Services for adults We help women to develop confidence, learn new skills and feel included. Healthy lives Whether it's shimmying and shaking or walking and talking, our projects support healthy hearts and happy lives. Creative culture We use creativity to support women to make friends, have fun and improve access to frontline services. We Learn Our Creative Learning Lab upskills women so they can start on the pathway to employment and be more internet-savvy. Black History Month Every October we deliver interactive and engaging workshops that celebrate African and Caribbean culture through art, music, and creative movement. Black History Month is a very busy time for us, so get in touch soon to see how we can work together. Arts and crafts We can adapt our art and crafts workshops to cover topics that support your interests, including: Recycling Nature Space Identity and belonging Cultural identity Cultural dance and creative movement Our two-part dance and movement sessions involve a fun and cultural dance session with African, Caribbean, Middle Eastern movements. This is followed by a relaxing and slow-paced session using varied choreographic techniques. Music and storytelling Using music, singing and storytelling, our workshops will help participants to explore different cultures, identity, and memory using: drumming singing keyboards And more! Wellbeing We deliver wellbeing sessions that aim to create a space for participants away from their worries, unwind and relax. At the end of January our Forever Manchester funding for culturally appropriate food parcels runs out and our waiting list is growing. We need to raise £4,200 to support 56 refugees and asylum seekers for 3 months and through this next lockdown.
